North-eastern or Isaan is not very popular with tourists but there are many things to do there and places to see. Khon Kaen is the capital city of this part of Thailand, it become the education centre for students all over Isaan as well as other part of the country. Ubonrat Dam is only 30 minutes drive north of the province and is well worth a visit. Not far from there, you can visit Phu WiangNational Park where fossils have been found. The cobra village is another place you must visit, they have many different kinds of snakes and the show they put on is great. However, before you leave Isaan you should stop by Korat or Nakhorn Ratchasima and visit Pimai (a Khmer monument). The main difference with Isaan from other parts is the food, it tends to be very tasty/spicier and the language is a mix of Laos and Thai. It has an easy laid back life style far different than Bangkok.
